Detroit vs. Utah

The much-anticipated match up between Detroit and Utah is finally here. It was the return of Mehmet Okur for Pistons fans who is having a career year. The first quarter had begun and it seemed that Okur was playing his best to beat his former team. He had 8 points in the first quarter as he shot the ball very well. The Pistons struggled to get anything going. In the first eight minutes, the Pistons had miss after miss, but fortunately Okur was there only score so the Pistons were never down by more than four. At the end of the first it was the Pistons who led 18-15.

Last night against the Clippers the Pistons came through big time, and it would be the same tonight. The bench provided a much needed spark as they ignited the Pistons on a run. Antonio McDyess shot 4/5 and had 10 points in the quarter to help lead the Pistons to a 51-38 half time lead.

As the third quarter began, most would say, “This game is over. The Pistons win,” but the Jazz might have something to say to that as they started out the quarter on 10-0 run using a showcase of Defense to help the offense. Milt Polacio scored three lay ups during this run. The Pistons were able to answer though with a run of their own to go up by seven. Then Adrei Kirlenko hit a three and sparked another run for the Jazz. The score at the end of the third was 66-63 with Detroit up by 3.

Usually in the fourth quarter the Pistons would either pull away or make a come back, but this one would be different from all the rest. Adrei Kirlenko seemed to own the fourth quarter as he at one point led the Jazz to a 12-2 run over the Pistons. The Pistons were down 13 with three minutes left trying to make a come back. In the end the Jazz would prevail to hold off the Pistons and the Jazz won 92-78.

Here are the stat leaders for tonights game.

Scoring: In the emotional loss in which the Pistons could only score 27 in the second half, there is no surprise that not one Pistons made it to 20 points. Rasheed and Rip led all Pistons with 16 points apiece.

Rebounding: It isn't often to see the Pistons not have one double figure rebounder, but it is even more shocking that the Pistons got out rebounded 55-27 in the entire game. With that said, Rasheed was the leading rebounder for the Pistons with 8.

Assists: You would have to go back to last season in that stat book to find that Chauncey failed to get more than 5 assists, but he still led all Pistons with 4 assists in the game.

Blocks: In a night of just complete disarray, you would expect that sometimes you won’t see Ben or Sheed get a block, but to see a shooting guard lead the blocks category says a lot. Maurice Evans led all Pistons with 2 blocks.

Steals: This is becoming a habit for Rasheed. It seems that wherever the ball pops lose thats where Sheed is and he led all Pistons once again with 4 steals.
