La Clippers vs. Detroit Pistons

The Los Angeles Clippers have been one of the biggest surprises this season. They have an excellent home record (10-1), while the pistons have a great away record themselves (9-1). The Pistons are known for their defense but one of the many surprises from the Clippers was that they rank first in Defensive field goal percentage.

The first quarter was not what most expected from this game. Instead of defense being the main “showcase” it was instead an offensive battle. The Pistons started off fast in the first quarter thanks to Billups and Rip. Rip had 8 points in the first five minutes of the game while Chauncey had already dished out four assists. The Pistons led the Clippers 30-23 at the end of the first.

The second quarter also showcased a lot of offense, but this time it wasn’t the starters it was the bench. Maurice Evans came in and scored nine in the second quarter. He and the rest of the bench reached there season average in scoring in only the first half . At the end of the quarter the Pistons bench had 17 points. Also Chauncey Billups had a big first half as he led the pistons to 59-45 lead over the Clippers with 13 points and 6 assists.

The third quarter was once again Rip’s quarter. He had another 10 point quarter as he led the charge for the Pistons to an 81-72 lead over the Clippers. The Pistons also received five points from Chauncey and some scoring from both Antonio McDyess and Carlos Delfino.

The fourth quarter had begun and the Pistons would not let up on their eight-point lead. Ben Wallace shot 22 foul shots in the game and made only seven of them. Luckily enough it did not hurt us at all. Twenty of those free throws came in the fourth. It seemed as though that was part of their game plan to “Hack-a-Ben,” but it really didn’t matter because Ben is not one of the main offensive threats for the Pistons. Chauncey led the Pistons in scoring in the fourth with 7 points. The Pistons would have kept the Clippers under the century mark if they wouldn’t have scored in the final eight seconds, but the final score ended up being 109-101.

Here are tonight’s leaders in the major stat categories.

Scoring: For the second straight time Chauncey Billups has led the Pistons in scoring, but yet he has still kept his assists up. If he can keep doing that, then watch out even more for the Pistons.

Assists: Again, no surprise, Chauncey led the team in assists like he has all season with 8.

Rebounds: Who else? Ben Wallace once again led the Pistons in rebound with 12 and 3 offensive boards.

Steals: Thus far in the season it has been Sheed with all the steals, but this time he would share the wealth with Rip, Ben, and Chauncey with one steal a piece.

Blocks: This stat usually belongs to Wallace*2 and there will be no change as of now. The Wallace boys (Sheed and Ben) both had 2 blocks in the game.
