POSTED: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 DETROIT — Former Detroit Pistons and current team ambassadors Rick Mahorn and John Long are planning to be part of a ceremony to celebrate a newly renovated preschool exhibit at the Detroit Children’s Museum.The free Wednesday morning event at the Detroit museum marks the completion of a two-month makeover. The preschool area includes wall graphics showing historical buildings where the Pistons have played, an interactive tot tree house and a Pistons basketball zone with court, baskets, basketballs and bean bag chairs.The event also features Pistons broadcaster George Blaha, mascot Hooper and members of the Automotion dance team.The Pistons organization worked with PNC Bank on the museum renovation.The Pistons have completed 24 renovations in Michigan, including school libraries, outdoor basketball courts and community centers. 06.08.2011– Delta Dental is partnering with the Detroit Pistons to promote mouth guard use during sports by distributing free mouth guards to all children attending any of the 18 Detroit Pistons youth basketball clinics scheduled this summer. According to the American Dental Association, sports-related injuries are responsible for knocking out 2 million teeth per year. Mouth guards serve as a shock absorber to prevent injuries to the teeth, tongue, lips and inner-cheeks.

FLINT — Throughout the Detroit Pistons “Bad Boys” era, former sports writer Dean Howe was a on-site for all of their contests. Howe covered the Pistons from 1987-1993 for Booth Newspapers in the Great Lakes State, producing exclusive content on the team at an alarming rate. A period in which the franchise won two back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and 1990. He also enjoyed a 41-year career as a sports reporter at the Flint Journal
